Buying in Spain
Or rather, for now, buying in and around the Granada area.
We live about 1.5 hours north of Granada and costs can be horrendous compared to the UK but you have to know what to look for and where to look for it. Pricing DIFFERENCES can be quite dramatic.
Here are some examples – if you have more -please do submit them!
Compact fluorescent lights: Go to your local lighting store and you’ll find the compact fluorescents we buy in the UK for £1 to be up to – are you ready FIFTEEN EUROS! So off you go to the cheap Chinese stores and sure enough they come between 2 and 4 Euros… the problem with that is – they’re RUBBISH. They break easily and don’t last very long – worse, many are a horrible cold white. Our first attempts at getting by this was to go to Carrefour in Granada. Their standard price for these lamps is almost as bad as the high street BUT they do own-brand which are cheaper… today we bought 3 11w lamps for 8 Euros… then we went to Brico-Depot… they’re cheaper there. Advice: Get your compact fluorescents at Brico Depot and make sure they are warm white if that’s what you are after. Most of their lights are on demo.
White external paint “Pictura Plastica”: – Carrefour 15 Litres 25 Euros - same stuff – Brico Depot 9 Euros… what can I say.
More soon.
(the Carrefour and Brico Depot I refer to are in Granada).
